How does PoolSolar heat up your pool ?

By simply passing filtered pool water through strips of E.P.D.M quality P.V.C Solar Matting which is heated by the sun's rays. The matting is pre-fitted to P.V.C Manifolds that are connected to each other.The manifolds must be plumbed directly to the filtration plant. The amount of Poolsolar you require will depend upon the size of your pool. (see chart for details)

Where is the best place to install the PoolSolar System?

Pool Solar can be installed almost anywhere - on theroof of your house, garage, porch, summer-house, pergola or directly on the lawn. The only important requirement is a sunny place i.e. south facing to ensure maximum heat absorption. Under normal conditions you need to use only half the surface area of your pool as the collector surface i.e. a 30 x 15' pool is 450 sqft, therefore approximately 225sqft of Pool Solar matting is required. For south-east and south-westerly facing positions in cooler climates the Poolsolar matting should be increased by 35-40%.

SITE LOCATION
The Poolsolar solar collectors should be positioned facing the sun as much as possible for a maximum efficiency, ideally 30 degrees (above horizontal) facing South. A maximum working pressure should not be above 1.5 BAR (22psi). A solar heat retention cover must be applied to the swimming pool overnight and when the pool is not in use to prevent heat loss. If installing PoolSolar swimming pool solar heating system on a ground surface i.e. for small above ground or splasher type pools please be aware that Poolsolar is not designed for heavy foot traffic. Make sure that all pipework to and from the solar collector can be drained for the winter period. We would recommend the use of a time clock to automatically turn off the filtration system at night or bypass the solar system. Alternatively, an automatic control system can be installed. Please take sufficient safety precautions before working on a roof.

The self-assembly Poolsolar swimming pool solar heating matting is supplied in either a 4 or 5m kit box and contains all the necessary components for you to install a solar collector. In addition you will need pool plumbing and, for roof installations, adhesive and support angles.

Some pool sizes result in requiring an additional half box, but this is not possible to supply. Therefore, we have shown the minimum and optimum number of rolls required. For above ground swimming pools we have reduced the amount of solar collectors by 20% to allow for heat absorption through the wall structure.

Note. You will need to purchase enough solar matting to cover 50% of the pool surface area. If a solar cover, solar sun rings or a heat retention cover is not to be applied overnight you will need to double the quantities below.

How Well Does SmartPool Inground Pool Solar Heating Work?

A correctly sized and installed SmartPool Inground Pool Solar Heating system can raise pool temperatures by up to 12?C during the Summer. You should only circulate water through the SmartPool Inground Pool solar collector when the sun is shining. When the weather is rainy or cloudy the SmartPool pool solar will not be efficient (and you probably won't be swimming during these times either), but your SmartPool Inground Pool Solar Heater will start heating your in-ground pool as soon as the sun starts shining again.

Does The SmartPool Inground Swimming Pool Solar Heating Need A Special Pump?

If your swimming pool pump is in good working condition, there shouldn't be any problem using your existing pump of ½ HP or above. A 1 HP pump will handle installations up to 30 feet away from the pump & filter and 12ft high. If the SmartPool Solar collectors are cool to touch when the water is passing through them on a warm sunny day, showing the transfer of heat to the swimming pool water, you are getting sufficient flow.

Use of non-SmartPool mounting and system hardware may void the warranty

1. The collectors should feel cool to the touch when the sun is shinning on them and water is passing through. This means that the heat is being transferred to the water.
2. The water returning to your pool will be a few degrees (3-5degrees) warmer than the pool itself. This is the most efficient way to heat a large body of water like a pool. Keep circulating the water, which adds a few degrees each pass
3. Circulate water though the solar collectors at least 6 hours per day during the daylight hours on sunny days. If you circulate water through it at night, when it's overcast or on chillydays, you will cool your pool water rather than heat it. If you need to run your pump at night, divert the water directly back to the pool and bypass the solar system.
