We have all done it at some stage of our lives. Yes, jumped into a swimming pool with a watch that was not water resistant as you would liked it to have been. This is definitely the case with older style watches.

Football Coach's Mothers Watch

I can classically recall a story from my youth where on football tour our football coach took a real soaking. At that time our coach had not long lost his mother.

You can imagine the scene, a group of 14 and 15 year old boys all larking about and plotting ideas

One of the lads had this great idea to throw the coach into the outdoor swimming pool, you know the sort of thing. Before we knew it there was a huge commotion and one very wet looking football coach. Unbeknown to us our coach was wearing the watch of his late mother, this was a massive fail!

So after a huge splash, and a great deal of laughter (from the team) there was a period of stony silence as we watched our coach looking at his watch. After he had taken off back to his accommodation one of his assistants informed us to the value of the watch, ouch! Unfortunately whilst it was extremely funny at the time, a group of lads who were doing nothing more than having a laugh really did put their collective big football boots in it. The watch immediately stopped working as it simply could not cope with the rigors and demands the water placed on it once it had taken its journey into the not so warm waters of the outdoor pool.

From that day I have never thrown someone in a swimming pool without at least knowing if the watch they were wearing had any sentimental value. Thankfully many designer watches that are made today are waterproof and shock resistant and can repel water, here are three watches that should not succumb to the perils of water should they take a bath with their owner should they suffer the misfortune of being pushed in a swimming pool.
